Rolling Back to Start
Also known as "supercallifragalisticexpialla–CRAP!"
Somehow, when I imagined contributing to Susie's Blog Party, I was expecting to pick something more demonstrative of my writing skill. Something that says, "I'm a twenty-eight year old novelist and I'm proud of it! Despite not having a regular job. And stuff." But this jumped into my lap, so why not?
I finally got my ass in gear and applied for season three of King of the Nerds. I didn't apply for last season, because I saw all the brilliant minds competing alongside my darling Moo (including Moo!) during season one and thought, "I can't keep up with them!" But balls-to-the-wall and fiddle-dee-dee: here I am. Without a video camera, no less.
Like most reality/competition shows, you have to have a paper application and a video. When I did the emailed summary/pre-bio the other day…I don't know. I thought I had time to hunt up a video camera and compose something before they needed it? I wasn't expecting them to come back and say, "Awesome. We're meeting with the network on Wednesday. Can you have something ready for the pitch?"
Uhh…*mouth hangs open stupidly*
I didn't count on being included in a network meeting. Like…ever. When it came to dealing with Hollywood bigshots, I thought it would be after I had a wildly successful novel and an agent to represent my interests with a movie studio. You know…somewhere down the road when I'm thirty-five and am…*counts on her fingers*…twelve books in?
Much as I'd like to be included in a network meeting–the first, no less–there is simply no way I can pull it off by Wednesday. I've already checked with my best guy friend and my neighbor and neither of them have a camera. I'm still waiting to hear back from my former-babysitter-turned mentor. Her father is an electronics junkie, so if anyone has a camera lying around, it's him. Even if he doesn't, I'm sure Sherrill and I could cobble something up by the June deadline (hell, before the end of the month, I'd prefer!) and record it with the video function on my tablet.
Now I just have to come up with something that doesn't make me pale in comparison to all the (pardon the generalization) rocket scientists and comic/gaming nerds they've had on board so far…
